YARMOUTHPORT - On Monday, June 11, 2007 at 7:05 PM—the Yarmouth Police Department responded to 28 Plymouth Road in Yarmouthport for a report of a out of control man with a knife The hysterical caller further reported that the man was intoxicated, destroying furniture, and threatening to kill himself.
Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer Raymond Scichilone was the first officer to arrive and he observed the man standing outside of the home armed with a 6” steak knife in his right hand.
Without warning—the man ran toward the police cruiser and jumped on the hood screaming for the officer to shoot him. Patrol Officer Kevin P. McIsaac arrived as the man continued to yell and scream repeatedly that he wanted to be shot.
Within minutes, Patrol Officers Scichilone and McIsaac were able to clear neighbors away from the immediate area and gain control of the situation. Patrol Sergeant John Lanata and Patrol Officers Paul Mellett arrived and the distraught man was eventually disarmed and taken in to custody.
Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigator Tim Wallace provided crime scene evidence collection. Members of the Yarmouth Fire Department were also present.
Arrested was Arthur A Ferreira, age 40 of 28 Plymouth Road in Yarmouthport. He is charged with 4 counts of Felony Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. The suspect was held overnight at Yarmouth Police Headquarters and transported to the Barnstable District Court this morning.
