HYANNIS - Cape Air has voluntarily grounded its entire fleet of Cessna aircraft. This order also includes all Nantucket Air planes. This is the first time this has happened in 18 years according to an airline employee. This temporary suspension of service was decided after detecting a pattern of excessive wear of a particular engine part. The entire fleet will undergo a complete inspection and replacement of the critical part. The employee interviewed did not know the exact part but did say it is critical to safety. The airline is grounding its fleet in the interests of safety and hopes to be airborne again next week.
As individual aircraft are repaired and inspected they will be put back in service. They are not accepting reservations for flights before Sunday at this time. For further information please call 508-771-6944.
