BARNSTABLE - At about 9:00 AM Monday Morning there was a three vehicle crash at the intersection of Service Road and Route 149 in Barnstable. This is opposite the the top of the Exit Ramp from Exit 5 on the west bound side of the /mid Cape Highway.
When HyannisNews arrived at the scene, it was our first impression that this had to be a fatal crash. The front end of an Ohio registered Red Pontiac Grand Prix had completely crushed the driver site roof and windshield down to the dashboard level of a blue and white full size Ford pickup truck which was on its side. It was hard to believe the driver of the pickup could have escaped such a devastating blow to his cab area on the drivers side.
From observations at the scene, it appeared that a Black Jeep Liberty SUV was traveling North on Route 149 when apparently the Ford pickup truck attempted to make a left turn across traffic onto Service Road. There were only about 20-30 feet of skid marks on the highway where the Jeep Liberty tried to stop.
The SUV impacted the passenger side of the pickup truck rolling it onto its side into the path of the Red Pontiac which apparently could not stop and the front end of the Pontiac crashed into the roof and windshield of the pickup truck's cab on the drivers side crushing it to dashboard level.
Both Barnstable Fire Rescue and West Barnstable Fire Rescue responded and Barnstable Fire Rescue transported two victims to Cape Cod Hospital. Their conditions are not known at this time but injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The accident is under investigation by Barnstable Police Patrol Officer Peter Myrbeck. Vehcles were removed from the scene by Capeway Towing of Hyannis.
