HYANNIS- Saturday- Just prior to 12 Noon- Barnstable Police responded rapidly to the area of North Street and High School Road for a report that a man had just been jumped and robbed by two thugs with knives.  According to reports at the scene two black males dragged the victim behind a building next to Puritan Pontiac where they ruffed-him-up and poked him with knives.  An employee at the car dealership heard his cries for help and notified police.  The two thugs fled the scene on stolen bikes which they had reportedly just stolen a short time before the armed robbery attempt.

A description was quickly given out by dispatch as two Barnstable Police Bike Units were just arriving in the immediate area.  Patrol Officer Brian Morrison and his partner spotted a suspect in the parking lot in front of Bob’s Furniture on North Street.  Officer Morrison, quite sure he had the right man, handcuffed the suspect and placed him in a patrol car to be transported back to the scene.  At the scene, across the street from CVS on High School Road the victim was able to positively identify the suspect as one of the thugs who had just attacked him.

A Hyannis Rescue Unit was summoned to the scene to treat the victim for what thankfully were only minor injuries.

Meanwhile a manhunt was ongoing for the second thug.  He was described as a black male wearing a white t-shirt and jeans; thin build, approximately 6 feet tall...  He was last seen on foot headed toward the intersection of North Street and Barnstable Road.  Police stopped and interviewed several potential suspects, booked vehicle license plates, and spoke with several witnesses.  At this time they have several leads that they are currently exploring.

The suspect in custody is reportedly a juvenile and police are speaking with at least one parent at the Barnstable Police Facility.

Hyannis News just learned that the suspect in custody will likely be charged with a litany of felony charges.  Likely charges being discussed are:

-          Attempted Armed Robbery

-          Armed Robbery

-          Assault and Battery

-          Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon

-          Receiving Stolen Property (Bikes)

-          (and other specialized felony counts which will not be printed by Hyannis News as they relate to the nature of victim’s personal circumstances)

Hyannis News will publish additional information as it becomes available.
