VIDEO UPDATE: CRASH VEHICLE REMOVED FROM SCENE ON TWO WRECKERS

DENNIS - At approximately 5:32 AM Tuesday morning Dennis Police responded to 9-1-1 calls reporting a one car roll over accident on Old Chatham Rd. approximately ¼ mile from the Harwich line.

When officer’s arrived at the scene they discovered that the vehicle had been split in two with the passenger compartment having turned over coming to rest in the roadway.  Officers also discovered the driver who was alone in the vehicle had been partially ejected from the driver’s side area of the vehicle.

The victim is identified as Kelly Ann Brennan, 18 years old, of North Westgate Rd. in Harwich.  She was deceased at the scene.   An initial investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling east on Old Chatham Rd., left the south side of the roadway for several hundred feet then crossed back over the roadway, turning in almost 180 degree arc and struck a large tree on the north side of the roadway. This caused the engine compartment to break off from the vehicle.   The remaining portion of the vehicle then struck a second tree causing it to come back onto the roadway and flip onto its roof.

The road was closed to traffic for approximately 2 ½ hours and reopened at 8:15 AM.

The accident is being investigated by Patrol Officer Richard Provencher and members of the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council’s Accident Reconstruction Unit.  Dennis Police Chief Michael Whalen was also at the scene and spoke briefly with HyannisNews reporters providing our initial information from the scene. Further information was later provided by Captain William Monahan of the Dennis Police Department.

The video below shows two wreckers with the two halves of the car. The first wrecker is carrying the front end and the 2nd wrecker is carrying the rest of the vehicle.
