WEST YARMOUTH - At about 9:30 AM on Thursday morning, Yarmouth Police received a call from a concerned motorist that a car was headed westbound on Buck Island Road had run up on a curb and was continuing to operate with two blown tires on the right side of the vehicle. Cruisers were sent that way to investigate. A short time later, another report came in that the car was headed down Town Book Road still with only 2 round tires.

It all came to an end as soon as the operator turned onto Route 28 and headed toward Hyannis. The next report was that the vehicle had stopped near the corner of Town Brook Road and Route 28. Upon arrival at the scene, Yarmouth Patrol Officers discovered that the car had actually been stopped by a utility pole, and that the driver had been injured in the crash.

Two Tired DriverThe elderly driver lost control of her vehicle and drove smack into a pole at the corner of Mill Pond Road. It was likely that the drag of the blown front tire dragged her front end in the direction of the pole. The crash actually happened at Mill Pond Road and Route 28 almost in front of the Old Mill Hill club. The impact moved the pole 2" to 3" from its original position.

Yarmouth Fire Rescue was called and treated the elderly woman driver at the scene and then transported her to Cape Cod Hospital. She had remarked that she was trying to get to a nearby tire store. for repairs. Her injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

The accident is being investigated by Yarmouth Patrol Officer Oliver Nass. The was assisted at the scene by Sergeant Gerard Britt and Patrol Officer Gordon Gibbons. The drivers name has not yet been released by Police and it is not known what charges if any will be filed.
