HYANNIS - At about 1:15 PM on Wednesday a Barnstable Police Officer made a vehicle stop in the parking of of Christy's CITGO at the corner of Bearse's Way and Route 28.
The vehicle he stopped pulled into a parking space in front off the Christy's store. The black SUV parked next to the vehicle stopped by the cruiser backed out of the parking space and hit the left front fender of the cruiser causing very minor damage to both vehicles. The cruiser's blue lights were flashing at the time of the accident.
The person stopped by the officer did not fare as well though. Although no one involved was injured, and their car was not damaged in the incident, it turned out that there were problems with the vehicle's registration and because of that, the vehicle was towed away by Rotary Auto Body.
The photo shows Sergeant Mark Mellyn speaking to the driver of the SUV. Sergeant Mellyn was not operating the cruiser that was struck, but was called to the scene in his role as a patrol supervisor.
