HYANNIS- Thursday- Just after dusk Officer Steve Everett picked up a LOJACK hit in the area of the Airport Rotary.

LOJACK is an anti-theft device installed in some vehicles that, when activated, allows specially equipped police cruisers to receive a signal alerting them to stolen vehicles in the immediate vicinity.

A heads-up Officer Everett called in the hit to dispatch and they provided him with a detailed description of the vehicle.  Within minutes all cruisers in the area were searching for a 1994 white Dodge Caravan, with Everett calling in locations and possible directions of travel.

Everett and other officers stopped the Caravan and arrested a man in the vicinity of Yarmouth Road in Hyannis.

The man will be charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle.

In a brief interview with Barnstable Police Sergeant Mellyn, he commended Officer Everett in doing a fine job initiating and staying with this particular investigation until its completion.

  • FUNNY- when I was listening to the action over the radio that was one of my first thoughts- Why would a 13 year old Caravan have a working LOJACK? My only answer is "why not?" - it worked very well and the individual now has it back... thanks for reading Hyannis News Syclopse!

  • Why would a 1994 Dodge Caravan have a LOJACK device installed in the first place? Even when it was new....
