SOUTH DENNIS - At approximately 4:00 AM on Tuesday morning,  Dennis Police officers responded to the area of Carriage Dr. for a report of subjects attempting to break into vehicles parked at area resident's homes.

The reporting person stated that they were awakened by their dog barking, and upon looking out their window observed several suspects trying to enter vehicles parked at residences along the roadway. Upon arrival in the area, Patrol Officer Nicholas Patsavos observed two individuals walking along an adjacent side street.

At this time the officer made his presence known to the individuals who fled into a wooded area off nearby Tuckoosa Rd. The subjects were pursued on foot by Patrol Officer Patsavos, joined by Patrol Officer Christopher Hennigan, and taken into custody following a brief foot chase.

At the time of their arrest, the suspects were in possession of a back pack containing items stolen from two motor vehicles which had been broken into on nearby Seagrove Rd. Both subjects are being charged with two counts of Breaking & Entering a Motor Vehicle and Larceny from those vehicles.

The adult suspect is identified as Ryan Murphy, 18 years of age, of Ash St. Brockton.  The second suspect is a 16 year old, male, from South Dennis. Mr. Murphy was arraigned in Orleans District Court this morning where he plead not guilty.  He was released on personal recognizance for a pre-trial hearing on Thursday August 23, 2007.

The juvenile was arraigned in Orleans Juvenile Court, released to the custody of a parent and willappear for pre-trial conference at a later time. Police are also investigating an additional thirteen (13) car breaks within a half mile radius of the arrests.

These car breaks were all reported as having occurred sometime during the overnight hours of Monday into Tuesday morning according to Captain William Monahan of the Dennis Police.
