HYANNIS- Late Friday afternoon employees of West Gate Medical on West Main Street called police after a man walking along in front of their store suddenly turned and kicked in the door, reportedly smashing a glass window.
Dispatch immediately sent two Barnstable Police patrol units while employees of the store provided a description of the suspect.
While police were responding, a male store employee followed the suspect described as a tall slim white male wearing glasses and carrying a gallon of milk. The store employee witnessed the suspect enter the rear of Colonial Court Apartments, about one block away from the store. Responding officers were directed to that location, but were unable to apprehend the suspect, unsure of his exact location.
Barnstable Officers returned to the store where the incident occurred to investigate further and take photos of the scene.
Meanwhile, the male employee of the store returned to the parking area behind Colonial Court in his own vehicle. From there he notified officers that once again had the suspect in sight. Several Barnstable Cruisers immediately returned and placed the man in custody. Hyannis News was in the area and arrived near Colonial Court moments after the man was secured in police vehicle.
According to Lieutenant Packer of the Barnstable Police the man taken into custody is Michael J. Anderson, age 56. Anderson resides at Colonial Court and police have dealt with him in the past. Anderson is charged with Injury to Real or Personal Property.
