(VIDEO) Woman Severely Injured in Late Night Wreck

CENTERVILLE- It was approximately 1:30am when an off-duty Barnstable Police Detective witnessed this serious one car accident at the intersection of South Main Street and Craigville Beach Road.

Detective Ed Scipione was off-duty when he noticed this Black Mazda Tribute traveling south towards the intersection, striking a tree at a high rate of speed.  Detective Scipione immediately phoned dispatch and then began to render first aid on the driver. 

The young woman driver smashed the windshield and received serious injuries to the head and upper body.  When Hyannis News arrived on scene COMM Rescue workers were busy trying to carefully remove the crash victim out onto a stretcher.  She was the only passenger.  First Responders needed to spend additional time treating the unidentified victim inside an ambulance.  She was able to cry out several times, which may be a good sign.  She was transported to Cape Cod Hospital.

The accident is under investigation by Officer Dan Ruth of the Barnstable Police.
