NEIGHBORHOOD SECURITY ALERT

HYANNIS PORT: The small community of Hyannis Port is being extra vigilant today due a recent incident which involved one of Bobby and Ethel Kennedy’s grandchildren.

Reportedly the young female Kennedy grandchild (age 10) was on her way home from playing tennis when two men approximately age 50, one of whom was smoking a cigar, approached her in a white van (newer model, possibly GMC, no windows...) and asked if she needed a ride.  She instantly became uneasy about the situation and quickly returned home, where she reported the incident to friends and family members.

As of this morning Barnstable Police are not investigating this as a crime, but rather a suspicious incident requiring extra patrol and visibility in that particular neighborhood.

Anyone seeing the aforementioned suspicious vehicle is urged to contact the Barnstable Police at 508-775-0387 ext. 8.

  • Funny post... and you stole my thunder! Never under estimate the stopping power of a well placed shrimp coctail. I think I may have read that some western police departments are looking into the possibility of shrimp coctail as an effective alternative to pepper spray... I'm not sure if the idea would catch on here locally where we value shrimp cocktail as a summer delicacy. I’ll mention it to Chief MacDonald but I doubt the idea will ever “fly.” Too much liability, horseradish can cause permanent blinding… :) But seriously, I believe Ethel is more than capable as a “Grandma” in protecting her little ones. As for Hyannis Port security they patrol mainly during the nighttime. This tight family community is very vigilant regarding their children and the police have stepped up visibility as they would in any other community. But, thank you for your levity!

  • Where's the red Hyport security vehicle? Have you asked Dick Quirk about this? They pay for private security down there. Does the truck only patrol after a certain hour? What would Ethel do if she came upon the alleged perpetrators? Throw a shrimp coctail at them?
