HYANNIS- Numerous Barnstable Police Officers aided by Pufferbellies Security personnel effectively responded to several altercations in the parking area at approximately 1:25am just after closing.
Most patrons were peaceful and compliant with nightclub staff efforts to disperse a large crowd taking their time to leave the premises… but suddenly attitudes changed and fists started flying.
Police immediately moved in and used a pepper spray mist to break up and disperse several fisticuffs which could have further escalated.
There were no fight related injuries, but Hyannis Rescue was already on scene attending to a woman involved in an alcohol related fall.
Police surprisingly only needed to make one arrest due to the strategic deployment of pepper spray. The mist acted as an uncomfortable deterrent to the escalating violence, quickly causing all combatants to leave.
One patron who had been stabbed in a previous altercation at the nightclub explained to Hyannis News that tonight’s violence was once again the result of youths from the New Bedford area coming to the club to start trouble.
Other Hyannis area patrons also approached Hyannis News to express their own personal safety concerns due to troublemakers from off-Cape cities. One young man expressed that certain individuals from other cities come to the club exhibiting “no respect” due to a misconception that Hyannis youths are the product of a quiet tourist town… “they think they can just push us around and that’s when this happens.”
