HYANNIS-  Shortly after 6pm first responders rushed to the parking area near Shaw’s supermarket at the Festival Plaza on Route 132 for a report of a flash and loud bang in the parking area.

An 18 year old Barnstable man turned himself into police at the scene where police discovered that the homemade bomb was made out of common household cleaning products mixed together in a 2 liter plastic soda bottle.  Officials discovered that the cleaning products had just been purchased inside the supermarket.   Police immediately taped off the area around a second soda bottle.

State police explosive experts were summoned to destroy the second device.

The mixture inside the plastic bottles contained acid and luckily nobody was injured.

Andrew Spalt will be arraigned on a felony charge for possessing the explosive.  A couple of his friends were interviewed and released.

Officials discovered that Spalt learned how to make the device internet videos.

.

WARNING:  Instructions on how to make these HAZARDOUS homemade chemical devices are all over the internet.  Do not attempt this, and be weary of your children becoming curious... as you could be subject to serious injury and/or felony explosive charges.

.

Parents should caution experimental kids regarding the consequences of messing with what are widely considered to be "bombs."  Especially since several local news agencies have already published exactly where to find detailed instructions on how to make these devices.
