NEWS BRIEF: Cabby ripped off in armed robbery

HYANNIS-  A local taxi cab driver was robbed of a small amount of cash early this morning.

At approximately 2pm in the area of DJ’s Wings on Yarmouth Road, a man jumped into the passenger area of a parked taxi and pressed an object against the cabby’s neck.

The driver turned over a small amount of his cash and the suspect fled the area on foot.

A Yarmouth Police Canine unit was summoned to assist Barnstable Police in their search.  The police dog lost the track several blocks away in the area of Cromwell Court on Barnstable Road in Hyannis.

Due to the nature of the attack, the cabby was prevented by the robber from turning around and getting a good look.  Police have little to go on at this time, no significant description of either the robber or his “weapon.”
