WEST BARNSTABLE- Thursday at 9:50am, an intensive police chase unfolded on quiet countryside roads near scenic railroad tracks and pastoral settings…

Barnstable Police responded to a Breaking and Entering in progress at a residence on Willow Street, where a family member discovered a white male wearing jeans and a grey jacket inside the house attempting to steal the Plasma television.  The perpetrator exited the building and ran off empty handed toward a local wooded area.

Barnstable Patrol units, with the aid of excellent communication from witnesses and dispatch officers quickly converged on the area’s perimeter.

A Barnstable Police K-9 unit was dispatched from his residence to the scene within a matter of minutes.

Meanwhile, Officers located and arrested a female get-away driver on dead-end Soft Shell Lane.  According to radio reports, both suspects were from off Cape and were not keenly aware of the area.  Police questioned the female and confirmed that the other suspect, still on foot, was running toward nearby railroad tracks.

At 10:14am the male suspect was reported under arrest by Sergeant Twomey and Sergeant Sweeney.  Due to the breaking-up of radio transmissions, one Patrol Officer not sure whether the chase had ended, asked if they still had the suspect in sight.  Sergeant Sweeney confirmed that the suspect was indeed in clear view, right next to them in custody inside a vehicle.  The chase was officially over.

When asked who made the actual arrest out on the train tracks, Sergeant Twomey and Sergeant Sweeney each good naturedly pointed at one another.  Today’s success was clearly a culmination of experience and teamwork.

Later reports confirmed the two suspects were heroin addicts who crossed the bridge from Plymouth and targeted the aforementioned residence at random.
