On Friday, February 16, 2007 at 12:00 PM—the Yarmouth Police Department’s newest Patrol Officer—Mary Gibney—graduated from the Plymouth Police Academy 48th Municipal Police Officer Class.

The Plymouth Academy is certified by the Massachusetts Police Training Committee and is led by Academy Director John DeGutis, Jr. Some of the training includes:

  • Use of Firearms
  • Medical Certification
  • Motor Vehicle Law
  • Criminal Law
  • Physical Fitness

  • Patrol Operations
  • Emergency Vehicle Operation
  • Use of Force

The training received will reinforce team-building philosophies—discipline—and sound decision-making and provide the skills needed to protect and serve all members of our community. Patrol Officer Gibney was one of 43 Police Officers from police forces throughout Massachusetts who completed their 22 weeks of vigorous training.

Patrol Officer Gibney finished second in the class in academics and will now begin her 12-week Field Training Program at the Yarmouth Police Department under the direction of Yarmouth Police Department Field Training Officer Kevin P. Antonovitch.
