HYANNIS- At 1:00pm Barnstable Police and Hyannis Rescue were dispatched to the area of Pufferbellies to help a “man down” on the ground.  Not long after being in back of the rescue vehicle, there was a sudden “change of plans” as the individual apparently became uncooperative.  A Patrolman approached to assist rescue workers, and soon after the subject was placed in handcuffs.  The individual appeared to be vocally and physically combative as he kicked at the door to the cruiser.

The individual, said to be intoxicated, was promptly transported to the Barnstable Police Facility.

Dealing with uncooperative and combative drunks is a fairly routine occurrence in the downtown Hyannis area.  Often these individuals are taken into Protective Custody where they are kept in lockup until they sober up and are able to function safely in public.

Nonetheless, these individuals can become dangerous, causing an additional occupational risk for First Responders simply trying to help.
