HYANNIS- At 12:24am First Responders were dispatched to this one car accident on Gosnold Street at the intersection of Old Colony Road.
Surprisingly, injuries were reported as non-life threatening. Two were transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
There was nobody inside the home at the time of the crash.
Coincidently, Hyannis News covered a Hit and Run accident directly across the street on Gosnold less than 24 hours earlier… please see yesterday’s story.
Also note that this accident occurred at a notorious spot well-known for these types of one car accidents. Neighbors who heard the crash, noted that this particular house had been hit in the past at least once.
The intersection is at the end of Old Colony Road, which use to be a direct railway line from the center of Hyannis to a coal pier in Hyannis Port. Because of its long straight path, teens have often used this stretch as a raceway. It’s possible for a reckless thrill seeker to reach dangerously high speeds before suddenly running out of enough road to slow down.
A NSTAR Electric crew arrived on scene to repair the demolished main electrical connection to the home.
Hyannis Fire fighters ran hoses onto the property just to be on the safe side. They also disconnected the wreck’s battery and inspected the area for additional hazards.
A county identification officer was summoned to take investigation photos.
Temperatures were in the teens at the time of the accident, and police tried to contact a caretaker in order to prevent further damage to the dwelling. A gaping hole in the exterior wall of the home needed immediate attention.
Hyannis News will provide updates as they become available.
