EAST DENNIS- At approximately 5:50am on Thursday morning March 8, 2007 Dennis Police responded to the Dennis Food Mart located on Route 134 after a neighbor reported hearing a commotion at the rear of the building.
Upon arrival Patrolman Russ Francis confronted a masked male exiting the rear of the store carrying coins and lottery tickets. The individual dropped the items and ran, leading Patrolman Francis on a half mile foot chase. Patrolman Francis caught up to the suspect in a thickly wooded area adjacent to the Wixon Middle School.
Following a brief struggle, Patrolman Francis assisted by Patrolman John Peters took the individual into custody.
The suspect is identified as William R. Williams, 44 years of age, of 200 Mayfair Road in SouthDennis.
Mr. Williams is being charged with Breaking and Entering a Building, Larceny From a Building, Possession of Burglarious Tools and Resisting Arrest.
Patrolman Francis received a non-life threatening head injury during the foot pursuit and was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Dennis Fire/Rescue, where he was treated and later released.
Mr. Williams will be arraigned later this morning in Orleans District Court.
UPDATED INFORMATION
Dennis Police are also charging Mr. Williams with the January 28, 2007 Breaking and Entering to the same establishment.
In that case police responded to a burglar alarm at the Food Mart at approximately 1:00am onSunday morning, January 28th .
Upon their arrival officer’s found that the front door of the store had been pried open and money had been taken from the cash register.
A store surveillance video of the January 28th incident showed a masked suspect wearing the same clothing as Mr. Williams had on during today’s break.
Mr. Williams will be arraigned today on these additional charges which include Breaking & Entering in the Night Time, Larceny from a Building and Possession of Burglarious Tools…
