MARSTONS MILLS- A front yard “No Place for Hate” sign posted by a representative of Barnstable’s No Place for Hate Committee (as designated by the Anti-Defamation League) was stolen from the home of a 4 year old hate crime victim sometime just before February 5, 2007. One of the parents spoke with hyannisnews.com explaining the child’s ongoing terrifying ordeal.
In a neighborhood where all children should feel safe, located merely 100 yards from Marstons Mills East Elementary School, a four year old child was allegedly assaulted by a neighborhood adult male in May of 2006.
According to witnesses, the four year old was approached by an angry white male and verbally assaulted. The hate language and scope of the alleged assault contains words that are too vulgar and defamatory to publish. The perpetrator allegedly had issues with the child’s parents. Witnesses say he approached the young child, got “in the child’s face,” and yelled obscenities about the child’s perceived sexual orientation.
Parents describe the ongoing pain suffered by an innocent victim and the child’s many sessions with healthcare workers resulting from the attack. Both parents have worked closely with professionals to help their little-one heal. Unfortunately, the four year old still is struggling to recover from the traumatic experience. Understandably, the young child cannot comprehend why he was singled out and held up to abusive ridicule in front of others. Both parents are deeply saddened, feeling their child’s innocence has been tragically affected.
The alleged perpetrator is a direct neighbor of the victim and faces criminal charges in Barnstable District Court.
Barnstable Police and Independent Investigators are doing their best to investigate ongoing criminal incidents and reports involving the aforementioned incident.
A Barnstable District Court Judge has ordered the defendant to have “NO CONTACT” with both the victim and the victim’s family.
Undisclosed security measures are in place and Law Enforcement Officials, as well as Child Advocates are treating this seriously, placing the child’s safety first.
Many details in this developing story have been left out to protect the victim, the victim’s family, and facilitate the ongoing investigation.
