Morning Update:  Hyannis News has just learned that the decomposed body has been identified as Terrence J. Maloy, age 58, who possibly may have ties to the Sandwich area.

Yesterday afternoon someone walked into the Centerville Osterville Marstons Mills Fire Department Reporting that there was a man down in shed in possible need of medical assistance.  Police and Fire Officials arrived and discovered that the body showed signs that it had been deceased for quite a while.

Trooper Carol Harding of the Massachusetts State Police along with other members of the CPAC unit were called in to investigate the scene.

Maloy had been briefly staying with his sister in Osterville up until she reported him missing in December.  The circumstances as to why Maloy was no longer staying with his sister are still uncertain according to Sergeant Twomey of the Barnstable Police Department.

Normally unattended deaths that do not appear unusual are handled here locally.  But this situation was not normal due to the fact the body was discovered in a shed that did not belong to Maloy and that alone raises questions.

The Boston Medical Examiner’s Office has decided to open their own investigation and the body has been released to them.

At this point the cause of death is still under investigation and further revelations will likely come from the office of Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe.

Stay tuned as Hyannis News will bring you updates on this story as they become available.

Yesterday's Breaking Story:

OSTERVILLE- Circumstances regarding the discovery of an unattended death are under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police CPAC unit.

Barnstable Police officers and detectives were also investigating the scene today.

The area was not cordoned off with police crime scene tape, and investigators seemed to be a bit amused and bewildered as to why there were 3 different media sources represented at today’s scene.

The dilapidated one-door shack is located on a dirt drive that runs about a hundred-fifty yards back behind a property neighboring Wimpy’s Restaurant on Main Street.  The entire property has a quiet private remoteness about it, and the small shack is tucked back at the edge of a clearing near wooded area.

The body was lifted out and into a hearse and reportedly taken to a local funeral home.

Barnstable Police were not able to release any information regarding the man’s identity tonight, stating that the case was still under investigation.
