HYANNIS- A Mashpee woman said to be in her twenties was transported to Cape Cod Hospital after a bizarre early morning rollover on West Main Street right in front of Barnstable High School.

Barnstable Police are investigating what caused a westbound 1996 Black Ford Explorer to leave the roadway, jump the sidewalk curbing, flatten a crosswalk sign, roll over at least once, and come to rest back on all four wheels again.

When Hyannis News arrived on scene Hyannis Rescue workers were carefully extracting the woman from the wreck and securing her on a stretcher.  Rescue workers worked on her briefly at the scene prior to transporting her to the hospital emergency room.  Although the woman was conscious, the extent of her injuries is uncertain at this time.

Meanwhile, a Barnstable Police Identification Officer took photos of the crash from all angles.  Firefighters disconnected the vehicle’s battery, preparing it for safe removal.

The call went out to police at 2:39am, the first cruisers arriving moments thereafter.

Barnstable Police were not prepared to comment on specifics at this early point in time.

It is still uncertain whether anyone will be cited for any motor vehicle infractions.

Hyannis News will bring you updates as they become available.
