2:00pm UPDATE (4/12/07):   In a conversation today with Hyannis News, District Attorney Michael O'Keefe cautioned the media to avoid being led by “wild speculation.”   He wanted to remind everyone that the matter remains under investigation by personnel assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office.  He told Hyannis News that the investigation should take another 2 to 3 weeks.

Hyannis News will provide updates as facts become available from credible sources involved in the investigation.

Report from April 11, 2007:

The Facts That We Know Of...

It was just three days ago when law enforcement announced that they were investigating the killing of Patrick E. Lancaster, who was born on April 11, 1956.

Mr. Patrick E. Lancaster is unable to celebrate his birthday today because he's dead.  He would have been 51 years old had he lived to see another 3 days.

Patrick Lancaster was found dead in a pool of blood on his own living room floor on Easter Sunday with 2 gunshot wounds to his abdomen.  His killer was later taken into custody just in front of his home on 11 Coach Lane in the village of Barnstable.

Mr. Patrick Lancaster had two grown sons in their 20's. One of the sons was somewhere in the home at the time of the killing.  Mr. Lancaster was also a grandfather.

In the warmer months, Mr. Lancaster operated a 31' charter fishing boat out of Barnstable Harbor called the Emily S.   Patrick Lancaster also worked as a building contractor.

Whether Mr. Patrick Lancaster had a criminal history during his fifty years of life has not been reported.  Mr. Lancaster was reportedly not known by the police according to all information received up to this point.  Mr. Lancaster was not known by Hyannis News.  It has not been reported that Mr. Lancaster carried guns.  Mr. Lancaster died from 2 gunshot wounds.

Mr. Patrick Lancaster was a dog owner.

Arrested and charged with "Murder" was the deceased victim's wife Dr. Ann Gryboski age 51. The matter remains under investigation by Barnstable Police and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the District Attorney's office.

Gryboski obtained a permit to own guns in 2003.  Within the past several years Gryboski obtained at least one firearm.  The firearm used in the killing of her husband.

Doctor Gryboski called police after Mr. Lancaster's body was already dead for an undisclosed amount of time on the living room floor.  Because of this incident Dr. Gryboski is no longer practicing medicine.  Ms. Gryboski reportedly confessed to killing her husband.

Ms. Gryboski pleaded not guilty in district court on Monday.

There has been much speculation, ranting, and story telling as to what caused bruising to Gryboski's lip and right eye prior to her court appearance on Monday, the day after the killing.  Ms. Gryboski appeared nimble, fit, and healthy as she quickly entered the back door to the court.

Advocates are coming forward with plenty of theories.  Some are already calling this killing a case of “Battered Woman Syndrome,” while others are saying she is getting off easy because of being a popular female physician.  The contrary “Female Doctorial Privilege” term is being thrown around by those concerned with this case being tried in the press prior to the disclosure of the facts.

Up until this point, her patients and neighbors have told media that she never before was seen with marks or bruising.  They also reported not knowing about any physical or loud altercations between this couple that had been together for almost 30 years.  It has not been released if anyone has come forward to testify as to what caused the marks on Gryboski's face during her appearance on Monday.  It is still unproven whether Gryboski was a victim of domestic violence.

However, it is certain that Mr. Patrick Lancaster was, indeed, a victim of Domestic Violence.

Mr. Patrick Lancaster's appearance after the killing is yet to be revealed.  It is still uncertain if he had marks or bruising.  Photos of Patrick Lancaster's corpse will likely be entered as evidence at a later date.

Mr. Patrick Lancaster will not be able to tell his story.  He will not be able to testify before a jury.  Photos of his corpse will be his final word.

Mr. Patrick Lancaster's killer is out free to possibly experience another birthday.

Mr. Patrick Lancaster will not experience another birthday, he's dead.

Mr. Lancaster’s alleged killer is due back in court on May 8.
