Shortly after 10:00 p.m. Sunday night, a blue pickup truck was reported to be overturned on Sea Street and Hyannis Fire Rescue reportedly transported at least one person to CCH. There was also slight damage to a utility pole in that accident.

The pickup truck was extensively damaged with the right front wheel completely ripped from the vehicle and the outer sheet metal of the right side front fender and door were also completely ripped away. Capeway towing was called and removed the wrecked pickup truck on a flatbed wrecker.

Barnstable Police continued to be extremely busy all night and this morning calls coming in by the minute from all parts of the town for storm related incidents. Winds peaked at 56 MPH in the Hyannis Park area and Weather Bug reported high winds of 51 MPH at Barnstable Municipal Airport overnight. The storm caused dozens of trees to fall and branches and debris littered the streets just about everywhere in Barnstable. Homes and businesses suffered varying degrees of damage throughout the area. The storm produced a flurry of alarms going off at residences and businesses throughout the town overnight.

Verizon Replaces Pole in Ridgewood

Early Monday in the morning, Ridgewood  Avenue was blocked for a time by Barnstable Police as Verizon crews replaced a pole near Bucklers GMC. See Photo.

In a separate accident this morning, a red mini-van was reported to have been involved in a hit and run accident at the corner of High School Road Ext. and North Street near the Hess Gas Station. The red mini-van with heavy front end damage was reported as leaving the scene and police units were on the lookout for it with it last seen on Route 132 headed toward Phinney's Lane. A few minutes later the driver apparently arrived at the Barnstable Police Station on her own to report the incident. A street sign was knocked down in the accident.

Across the harbor at the Lewis Bay Marina a large sailing yacht that had been recently removed from the water and put in storage in the parking lot had its cover blown off and shredded by the high winds.

In Osterville Village at least two trees came down.

On Right: On nearby Parker Road a large tree in a front yard came down narrowly missing the home on the same property. See photos on right.

On Mitchell's Way there were several tree limbs down with wires laying on the pavement and hanging into the travel lane. Police or utility workers barricaded the street to warn drivers of the danger. Just around the corner a car parked in a driveway nearly fell victim to a limb that landed just in front of the vehicle blocking it in.

While on the road getting pictures of the storm damaged, HyannisNews encountered a news crew from CNN doing alive news feed by satellite from the Hy-Line Docks on Ocean Street. They enjoyed that HyannisNews covered them covering the storm.

Englewood Beach Water Front Home Flooded

At Englewood Beach in West Yarmouth, this Lewis Bay Water Front home was already flooded two hours before high tide and the street in front of this home was also flooded.

The winds had subsided around noon time but were picking up in the afternoon. There is a danger of flooding during the next few high tides.

HyannisNews will monitor the situation and will report on flooding conditions if warranted.
