At approximately 6:50 AM Tuesday morning, Yarmouth Police and Fire and Rescue Units and Fire & Rescue units from Hyannis responded to reports of a BFI rubbish truck on fire between the NStar facility and the intersection of Camp Street on Willow Street/Yarmouth Road.
When HyannisNews arrived at the scene, the quick thinking BFI truck driver had just dumped the smokey, hot load in a vacant lot just off the roadway probably saving the truck from total destruction.
A Hyannis Fire Truck laid about 400-500 feet of hose to the nearest Hydrant in the direction of Camp Street.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known. Authorities at he scene said it could have been caused by almost anything. Sometimes people throw out prohibited items in their trash such as paint thinner or gasoline. Another possibility could be a carelessly discarded cigarette in some one's trash or even a combination of things.
The fire was extinguished by 7:55 AM. All emergency vehicles are were expected to be able to clear the scene by 8:30 AM.
