4/29/07 HYANNIS- At approximately 2:00 AM Barnstable Police responded to an accident where the vehicle in this photo drove straight across the lawn and struck a house on Whitehall Way.

The operator and occupants then exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot traveling north on Whitehall Way.  Police arrived and began to investigate the scene.  After running the registration number, officers learned that the vehicle belongs to a male in his late twenties residing on Fresh Holes Road in Hyannis.  Another officer remembered having dealt with the vehicle owner in the past and that he possibly had relatives in the area.  Police fanned out and searched the area, including all leads as to where the operator may be headed.

A K-9 unit was called to the scene and began to track north on Whitehall Way.

Identification Officers arrived and took photos of the vehicle and the structural damage to the building.

Duty wreckers carefully pulled the vehicle from the building while police and fire officials stood by just in case.

.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Barnstable Police.

Hyannis News will provide updates to this story as they become available.

Update 4:00 AM: While tracking on foot, K-9 Officer Troy Perry came upon a suspicious compact style vehicle which also fled when approached.
