WEST BARNSTABLE- For fire and rescue personnel the accident located at the intersection of Route 149 and the Service Road is an all too common location.
At 6:00pm the sun was low in sky, blinding drivers attempting to cross busy Route 149… people returning home from work, rushing to get chores done, scampering to pick up the kids… this particular intersection is also located right in front of the on/off ramps to the Mid-Cape Highway.
Over the years the Barnstable Police and West Barnstable Fire Departments have responded to countless accidents where residents were seriously injured at this notorious spot. The injuries in this afternoon’s accident fortunately did not appear to be too serious.
The passenger of the Toyota 4Runner was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for pains in her chest area, according to the patient’s husband; he was also very surprised that the driver’s airbag did not deploy in this particular collision. The impact was sharp enough to cause the S.U.V.’s front tires to point away from each other in different directions.
The other vehicle was a Toyota Camery.
The accident is under investigation by Barnstable Police and Identification Officer Scott Thompson was summoned to the scene for photos.

Firefighters made both vehicles safe for towing and ensured that the pavement was free of hazards.
