(Harwich, May 16, 2007) Cape Cod Healthcare announced today that it has opened its new rehabilitation facility at the Fontaine Medical Center in Harwich. The New 2,150-square foot center, which greatly expands rehabilitation services on the Lower Cape, was made possible by a $500,000 gift last year from a long-time Harwich resident Helen Murdock “I was very impressed with the quality of rehabilitative care I received from the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod and at Liberty Commons after I had knee-replacement surgery,” Helen said upon announcing her gift. “I just think we need another Rehab Center on the Lower Cape. By building this center at the Fontaine Medical Center, more people on the Lower and Outer Cape can now receive top-notch rehabilitation service.
The new facility on the ground floor of the Fontaine Medical Center – features a new gym and four new treatment rooms. “We are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to expand our rehabilitation programs in the Fontaine Medical Center through Helen’s support,” said Pat Wolfe, director of orthopedic services and rehabilitation services at Cape Cod Healthcare. “This new center helps move us even further along in our goal of providing top-quality rehabilitation services that directly benefit the people of the Lower and Outer Cape”
The new center is named the Boo McGraw Rehabilitation Center, after Helen’s calico cart that lived for 17 years. “It’s I honor of the doctors, nurses and staff at Fontaine Medical Center,” Helen said. “I love having healthcare services available here at Fontaine Medical Center.” Helen, a resident of Harwich for 36 years, has a history with helping in the health care industry on Cape Cod, having served as a candy striper, volunteering at Cape Cod Hospital when she was 17. “My Philosophy is that I have an obligation to share what I have,” she said. “I love being able to help out like this. So many people have their knees and hips replaces now. It will be nice for them to be able to rehab right here in Harwich.
