HYANNIS: Tuesday - Barnstable Police are investigating several reports of vandalism in the neighborhood around West Main Street near Lincoln Road.

The most notable vandalism was at Calvary Baptist Church at the corner of Lincoln Road and West Main Street, someone using silver spray paint put and upside down cross with the numbers 666 on the front door of the church. (See photo)

HyannisNews spoke to Moses Reilly, the caretaker of the church who lives on the premises.  He told HyannisNews that he left to go to the Gym at 7:15 AM and it was not there then, but he found it when he returned about one hour later.

HyannisNews also spoke to the Pastor’s wife, Caroline Marshall Smith who said that when her brother and her husband arrived at the church this morning at about 7:00 AM, there was nothing on the door then, but when she arrived at 8:15 the 666 was already on the door.

When asked her reaction to the vandalism, Mrs. Smith said: “Whoever did it – They need to volunteer here, we have Calvary’s Pantry Kitchen here – Let them do some service here.”

Caroline Marshall SmithNearby, Steve & Sue’s Ice Cream and Miniature Golf had their own form of vandalism. HyannisNews spoke to owner Steve Fidele who told HyannisNews that he found several insignias painted on windows and shingles on the side of his building with both silver and black paint. The Steve & Sue’s graffiti resembled a Budweiser crown with a dot above each point and some scribbling. It had been removed before HyannisNews arrived at that scene.

There was also graffiti found inside Barnstable High School. HyannisNews attempted to contact Barnstable High School Resource Officer Reed Hall about that incident, but he was not available at the time of our call.
