HYANNIS SUNDAY - KMART PLAZA - “Troops in the Spotlight”
Starts at 11:30 AM for 24 Hours - Ends at Noon on Monday
Three years ago, at the age of 12, Dylan DeSilva started an organization called "Cape Cod Cares for our Troops". Dylan has dedicated himself to supporting our troops now serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is an amazing young man that you should know about. There is no better time to learn about Dylan and his organization than this weekend!
According to his web site at http://www.capecod4thetroops.com Dylan, with the help of his family and friends, collects toiletries, snacks, clothing, and cards, that he packages and then mails to our troops overseas. He has held a variety of fundraisers to support this project. Over 1200 packages have been mailed and he has received many notes of thanks from our troops abroad.
Dylan's third “Troops in the Spotlight” event will be held at the K-Mart Plaza on Route 132 in Hyannis this weekend. At this event, personnel from different branches of the military stand in one hour shifts for 24 hours on a flatbed truck as a tribute to those serving overseas.
Dylan had the idea and he carried it through with a lot of hard work and giving selflessly many hours of his time. He has received many awards for his work including the Cape Cod and Islands Red Cross 2007 Youth Good Samaritan Heroes Award.
