SOUTH YARMOUTH - Things got a little too hot this Memorial Day for a garbage truck driver making his rounds in South Yarmouth. Around 11:00 AM Yarmouth Fire Rescue was called to the scene of a vehicle fire on Route 28 near the corner of Forest Road.

Yarmouth Police arrived first and reported smoke coming from the vehicle. The load was dumped into a bank parking lot and the fire was quickly extinguished. Yarmouth Police completely blocked off Route 28 for about 20 minutes while the fire fighters worked over the scene. There were no injuries but the load provided quite a sight for onlookers.

We were told that the driver went ahead with his appointed rounds while another truck was called to remove the debris.

Earlier in the day - Yarmouth Fire Rescue responded to a rollover accident at Exit 8 on the Mid-Cape Highway. The operator of that vehicle was transported with minor injuries. One of the fire trucks responding experienced some mechanical problems and was towed back to the station.
