(Refer to the poll question on "Site Speed" in the left hand column...)
.
I have received some feedback regarding one of the selections in a recent poll question regarding the speed of our site. One reader mentioned that the poll made us look as if a 17 year old had written it, and I must concur that this particular poll was immature, obnoxious, and possibly very offensive- especially to the sensibilities of turtles.
Choice # 1: “site runs way too slow, like a pregnant arthritic sea turtle trying to make it up an icy hill (in a wheelchair, against hurricane force winds, doped up on smack...)”
First of all let, me take ownership of the offensive comment for it was I who wrote it and I must admit that I was feeling more like a 14 year old when I did so.
I came up with the poll question after several readers expressed concern about the speed of our new software. Since the installation of the upgraded software, I noticed that the site’s speed had slowed considerably and that is unacceptable in today’s day and age.
The poll was written in frustration with this issue and the outcome was so obvious it was hard to take the writing of the poll seriously.
Since the poll, Hyannis News has taken several remedies to help speed along the loading of our stories and we have seen some improvements, but I must admit that the problem of slowness still remains to some degree (see related poll question).
Our technical people are working with the authors of the software and I expect more improvements will follow. At Hyannis News we take the issue of techinical performance very seriously and thank you for your patience as we rectify any problems.
I also would like to apologize to the following groups who I, perhaps insensitively lumped into a generalization of SLOWNESS:
1. Pregnant Sea Turtles, my rash categorization is false and I must clarify that I’ve seen much slower sea creatures... Compared to a Sea Snail, Pregnant Sea Turtles are actually relatively speedy!
2. Pregnant Sea Turtles Addicted to Smack- I agree, it never is appropriate to poke fun at sea creatures with substance abuse issues…
3. Pregnant Sea Turtles in Wheelchairs- again I agree and apologize, those confined to wheelchairs should never be used in a ridiculous rhetorical poll questions!
I would like to thank our readers for their ongoing support and feedback… especially those readers who happen to be Sea Turtles!
.
Keep reading, and keep on keepin’ on!
