HYANNIS- Shortly after 1:00am a woman returned to her Bearses Way residence and discovered that someone had broken into her home.  Although frightened, she nervously peeked inside and discovered a strange man sleeping on her living room couch.

She then smartly hid herself outside and phoned police!

Hyannis News heard the bizarre call and arrived just as Barnstable Police Officers were entering the residence.

The video shows Patrol Officer Mark Palmer and his partner talking to the intruder just after they woke him up.  The drowsy man was still inside and visible to our camera while sitting up on the living room sofa.  The woman waited outside, still obviously frightened, standing hidden from view behind a vehicle parked in front of the home.

Officer Palmer came to the door and asked if she was certain she did not know the man.  The woman said she did not.

Officer Palmer then turned to the suspect and told him to stand up.  Officers searched him and placed him in handcuffs.

The man still appeared half asleep and surprised as Officer Palmer walked him out to an awaiting cruiser.

The sleepy intruder was then placed in the back of the cruiser and transported to the Barnstable Police facility for booking.  Police radio chatter said he was to be charged with Breaking and Entering.

A Barnstable Police Identification Officer was summoned to the scene to take photos of the break-in.

Hyannis News spoke with Barnstable Police Lieutenant Jason and she confirmed that the man would be transported to Barnstable District Court later in the morning to be arraigned on the charge of Breaking and Entering.

Update:

.

Suspect Derek Hallenbrook, 27 was araigned in Barnstable this morning and held on $1000 bail.
