Occupants Run After Pickup Flips

WEST BARNSTABLE: Tuesday - At about 9:45 PM Barnstable Police, State Police and West Barnstable Fire Rescue responded to a rollover accident on the Mid-Cape Highway westbound on-ramp at Route 132. This ramp is at the lights opposite the entrance to the West Barnstable service area and Burger King. Upon the arrival of HyannisNews the white Chevrolet pickup truck was upright at the edge of the woods with extensive damage to its roof and windshield.

Barnstable Police arrived first and determined that the occupants had fled the scene. They were later located in Parking Lot 3 at Cape Cod Community College. The victims declined medical treatment by Fire Rescue personnel.

Several marked and unmarked State Police and Barnstable cruisers converged on the Community College Parking lot and it appeared that the occupants of the vehicle were being detained in the back seat of a State Police cruiser.

Troopers Investigate AccidentSeveral Troopers were positioned between the the West Barnstable Fire Rescue Ambulance and the cruiser where the victims were believed to be detained. It appeared that one officer was talking to the victims through the door as police attempted to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident and why the operator and his passenger fled the scene.

The on-ramp was closed down for 10-15 minutes to allow a Capeway Towing flatbed wrecker to get into get into position and remove the vehicle from the scene.

The accident is under investigation by State Police Trooper Tom Forrest. No other information is available at this time
