WEST BARNSTABLE - At about 6:30 this evening, pieces of rubber tire tread flying from the wheels of an eastbound  truck carrying heavy equipment struck and injured a motorcycle rider who was also traveling eastbound. The accident happened about 2000 feet east of the Exit 6 overpass at Route 132.

The motorcyclist was sitting on the ground near the pavement and his bike when HyannisNews arrived - only moments behind State Police. Fire Rescue from West Barnstable arrived a short time later and evaluated and stabilized the victim at the scene. I

It is believed he was then transported to Cape Cod Hospital in a Sandwich Fire Rescue ambulance probably called to the scene under the mutual aid system.

The extent of the injuries to the cyclist are not known but are not believed to be serious. State Police are investigating.
