WEST DENNIS - Late Wednesday afternoon, some anxious friends called Dennis Police 911 to report that their friend who was out on the water, on a surf board or or wind surfer, seemed to be missing. Apparently, they had not seen him in about two hours.
An all out search was immediately launched and Dennis Fire Rescue personnel scoured the waterfront looking for the missing man. After about 30-45 minutes of searching the missing person was located a considerable distance down the shoreline in the direction of Harwich. He was safe on the beach.
This is the second time in 18 hours Dennis Fire Rescue has had to respond to a report of someone in the water. Late last night they searched Bass River for someone in the water. That person was later found in the water hanging on to a dock according to reports received by HyannisNews. He was brought to shore by Fire Rescue at he Ferry Street Dock.
Fortunately, both incidents had a happy ending. With the summer coming on, it is important to remember that when you go out on the water, always go with a buddy, and make sure someone knows where you are and when you should be expected back.
Taking reasonable safety precautions could help prevent a lot of anxious moments for your friends and family - or save your life or the life of a friend.
