Footage of the scene will load at the bottom of this page...

HYANNIS- Monday- At 9:24pm the radio crackled and all hell followed with it… Barnstable Police Patrolman John Campbell had a suspect running from him in the area of Louis Street and Barnstable Road.

Officer Campbell was in a neighborhood plagued with drug problems and investigating a suspicious white Lincoln parked at 10 Louis Street when the black male operator fled from him.  He quickly put out a description and direction of travel as two Barnstable K-9 units immediately converged on the general area.

Officer Campbell nearly captured the suspect behind one of the buildings when the passage way narrowed to the point where he could not follow due to his equipment, radio, and gun belt.  The suspect scurried into a nearby cemetery between trees and shrubbery.

Suddenly K-9 Officer Troy Perry’s voice could be heard over the radio ordering someone to the ground in front of the Willow Tree Market on the other side of the cemetery.  The operator of the white Lincoln was in custody.  Detective Jason Labor, K-9 Officer Sean Roycroft, Patrolman Steve O’Brien, and Sergeant Steve McGuire were also on scene to assist with the arrests.

Not long afterwards, a female passenger of the vehicle was also taken into custody for Disorderly Conduct.

Officer Campbell with his drug sniffing dog Rocky retraced the route of the operator’s flight before his capture and discovered a certain quantity of illegally possessed prescription drugs.  A Barnstable County Identification officer was called to the scene for photos and assistance with the evidence.

As a result of his investigation Officer Campbell placed the operator of the Lincoln in custody.  While searching the suspect approximately $5000.00 in cash was found in one of his pockets.

Arrested Persons

Tory Washington will be charged with Possession of a Class E Substance with Intent to Distribute.

The identity of the female passenger was unavailable at the time of this report.

 Aside

.

While searching for the area for drugs, Rocky the Drug Sniffing Dog (Officer Campbell’s Golden Retriever Partner) suddenly came across something, bit into it, and thrashed it about… it was an opossum!  The opossum got the worst of the altercation and probably will not be coming down for breakfast-  It is still uncertain whether or not the opossum was a known accomplice of Tory Washington… there were also plenty of skunks seen nearby as well.
