HYANNIS - An Eagle Eyed Barnstable Police Patrol Officer with a good memory for faces combined with top notch teamwork with other officers resulted in the quick and efficient capture and arrest of a suspect wanted in at least two states Thursday morning.
Barnstable Patrol Officer Jeffery Jackson, while making a routine visit to the Cape Cod Nutrition Corner at 75 Route 28, believed he recognized a subject named Daren Byers whom he believed was wanted on arrest warrants from both Massachusetts and Florida.
Officer Jackson called dispatch by radio to confirm that there were warrants that were currently active. Once the warrants were confirmed active, police officers acted in a coordinated effort to box in the suspect to prevent any possible escape.
Florida officials said they would to extradite Byers if captured. It is believed the warrants were for felony drug related charges.
Officer Jackson and other Barnstable Officers surrounded the area to prevent any possible escape. Byers was then captured without incident in the parking lot in front of Cape Cod Nutrition Corner.
Assisting in capturing Byers and making the arrest were Sergeant Andrew McKenna, and Patrol Officers Christopher Kelsey, Jean Evans and Michael Puntonio.
Officer Puntonio then transported Byers to the Barnstable Police Facility.
