HN NOTE: The above HN photos show Hyannis Firefighters assisting a woman on Main Street in Hyannis, shortly before 3:00 a.m. this morning. The woman had luggage and appeared to be homeless.
As temps continue to plunge, please keep a sharp lookout for individuals living on the streets of Hyannis… as well as those across the entire Cape. In the past, there have been warming stations for the Hyannis homeless, but according to sources, there is no word on whether that is the case this year. Police and firefighters will, however, do wellbeing checks and attempt to contact existing shelter options to see if there is room for new, last-minute intakes.
It’s not unusual for the homeless to freeze to death on the streets of Hyannis. HN has witnessed this and it’s sad… and it’s also 100% preventable if everyone remains vigilant this time of year. Thank you.
