61-YEAR-OLD HYANNIS MAN LIVING IN CARDBOARD BOX REPORTS MEDICATION STOLEN [HN PHOTOS]
HYANNIS, Massachusetts – A 61-year-old man living inside a cardboard box on the streets of Hyannis called police early this morning, reporting someone had just stolen a gym bag full of his belongings. Patrolman John York of the Barnstable Police Department took the report shortly after midnight. The man told Officer York the bag contained his expensive medication and other belongings. Officer York took down the suspect’s description based upon the victim’s best recollection of the fleeing adult male, which included having brown hair and wearing eyeglasses, along with a couple of other details. The victim was still in possession of his cellphone and provided the officer with his phone number.
The man’s current home, a cardboard box to the rear of a downtown Hyannis business, was carefully positioned underneath the building’s overhang in an attempt to avoid prevailing winds and rain. The box contained a couple of fleece blankets and the man eventually climbed back inside in an effort to fall back to sleep.
The man expressed being grateful when Officer York said he’d be searching the area for the suspect with his belongings. (The man told HN he was also grateful and relieved the thief didn’t take his bike, which he needs to get around…)
The man was sound asleep when HN returned a couple of hours later to check on him. And his belongings were still missing at the time of this report. [DEVELOPING]
In another HN Photo from the overnight, a woman reported a black Chevy sedan fled the North Street area after striking her. The woman was checked out by Hyannis Rescue for minor injuries. She was not transported to hospital. The Barnstable PD is investigating…
