BAD INTERSECTION: One vehicle left the roadway after crashing through a fence…
HYANNIS – Ever since Hytonians traded in their raggedy horses and buggies for automobiles, people have been slamming into one another at High School Road and South Street.
From fatalities to fender benders, the notorious intersection has seen its share of outrageous traffic accidents.
Last evening was no different…
Fortunately nobody was injured, but one vehicle did manage to jump the curb before taking out some wooden fencing and landing in an occupied hotel parking lot, after having just collided with a second vehicle.
HN NOTE: The perennial question has always been, “how many more crashes must there be before someone comes up with a viable solution to slow down traffic on South Street, Hytown’s last drag strip?
And its not just your ordinary drag strip, this one passes through a school zone and cross walks in front of a residential program for young mothers often seen out pushing their infants in baby carriages…
So, when’s the next one? Maybe the town can start some kind of lottery or pool… pick the next accident date, win a prize. Lottery proceeds can go towards putting in traffic lights or speed bumps… something…
I can joke a little bit about it now because nobody was seriously hurt last evening, but we all know it’s just a matter of time before somebody is…
… again.
