INITIAL HN COVERAGE:
HARWICH – The first police officers on scene found wreckage so badly mangled they were unable to tell what type of vehicle it was.
At about 12:30 a.m., first responders encountered a hazardous crash scene at the intersection of Route 39 and Chatham Road, where a single vehicle had just sliced through a utility pole before rolling over and wrapping around a tree. There were live wires down on the vehicle and Eversource had to shut off power before police and firefighters could even get close enough to search for victims…
… and when they did they found the deceased driver.
On their Facebook page, the Harwich Police advised the public to avoid the area, saying, “Rt 39 between Lovers Lane and Tody Bole is closed due to a serious motor vehicle crash. Power is out in the area and it will be closed for an unknown amount of time for crash reconstruction. Please seek alternate route.”
The Harwich Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash and HN will provide official details as they become available. The following HN Video highlights the scene…
