[Updated] Body found behind mall…
Hyannis – Barnstable and State Police are investigating the discovery of a body in a wooded area near a small pond behind the Cape Cod Mall.
Sometime before 11am witnesses alerted a patrol officer they had came across a body.
The small wooded area is located next to a small pond and has several worn pathways that exit out into the mall parking area.
A responding BPD detective was quick to tape off the entire area…
… State Police detectives were also summoned to the scene.
A member of the Hyannis Fire Department’s Heavy Rescue Unit entered the area wearing some sort of protective suit… possibly to protect both the rescue worker and scene from contamination.
The body was removed on a stretcher and placed into what appeared to be a Massachusetts State Medical Examiner van.
Hyannis News will provide updates as they become available.
Update — 7/17/2013: According to WXTK News, District Attorney Michael O’Keefe says “the 24-year-old man found floating in a pond in the rear of the Cape Cod Mall was clutching an aerosol can of compressed air. Several other cans were found nearby and it is believed the victim was inhaling the air, known as ‘huffing’.”
