Every once and a while…
[HN NOTES & MULLINGS ON THE MATTER]
Every once and a while, around 3:30 a.m., the radios go quiet and so does all the fuss. There’s a little spot, tucked away over by the airport where we sit with all the windows down during these nearly breezeless, warm overnights – crickets harmonizing, faintly, and I wonder if I’m the only one left in this insane world of cellphones and indoor life – with all that indoor electronic noise! – that still can even hear the thousands of violin playing insects, out there somewhere in the otherwise still, airport darkness, playing their little hearts out against the quiet overnight heat and sudden calm that only happens every once and a while.
As 4:00 a.m. rolls around, the occasional cars begin passing by again, just in from the Yarmouth line or mid-Cape highway… and my heart breaks, as the increasing volume of motorists slowly begins rolling in, intermittently drowning out the fine music of airport insects, seldom ever heard.
By 4:30 a.m., it’s a steady symphony of unrehearsed traffic noise all-over-again, along with random, explosive crashes of car-sized metal dumpsters being lifted and dropped against asphalt, now hollow and empty of yesterday’s filth. Empty trash receptacles, the official start of a brand-new day.
………………………………….
Well folks, it was quiet and almost restful for most of the overnight. It’s now 4:45 a.m. and there’s nothing to report, thus far…
… but we all know that’s always subject to change around here.
Please have a very safe and splendiferous Cape Cod Tuesday, my friends! All our love, and until next time…
