*** WATCH *** DANGEROUS STOP: “All likelihood he is armed…” suicidal man did not initially stop for police…
HARWICH – Harwich officers and police from surrounding towns dealt with a dangerous call last evening where a male was reportedly suicidal and likely armed with at least one firearm. (He owned a total of 12 firearms, according to radio transmissions.)
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, Harwich police responded to a local parking lot to speak with the distraught man shortly before midnight. The man reportedly left in his pickup truck before officers arrived on scene. Officers learned the man was likely armed. Information was quickly put out to police in surrounding towns. After a period of time, a patrolwoman with Orleans Police Department spotted the vehicle in her town and began to follow it while other officers closed in to provide backup. Once in position, officers activated their blue lights and tried to initiate a traffic stop. The distraught male did not initially stop for police. There was a brief pursuit with the pickup truck finally pulling over on Route 39 in Harwich, shortly after it had crossed over the town line from Brewster.
Officers on scene managed to bring the incident to a peaceful conclusion, safely taking the man into custody and getting him medical attention. He was eventually transported to CCH where he will hopefully get the help he needs.
