EARLY MORNING SCARE: A neighbor jumped out of bed, stopped most of the fire with a garden hose… [HN PHOTOS]
HYANNIS – A pile of junk and a fence caught fire. Several yards away, a woman and her dog were asleep inside their home when someone started banging on the front door. A next door neighbor had awakened, jumped out of bed and was able to knock down the flames with his garden hose. And it’s a good thing he did because the fence ran right up to the corner of the neighbor’s house.
Shortly before 2:00 a.m., an engine from the Hyannis Fire Department responded to an outside fire on Crocker Street. The flames had been knocked down, but firefighters wet down the smoldering junk pile (which included an old mattress) and checked for extension. It’s unknown what caused the fire.
The woman and her dog had evacuated their home as a precaution. Nobody was hurt…
