MARSTONS MILLS: Man crashes into tree after being shot… [Emergency Audio]
MARSTONS MILLS – [DEVELOPING] Early this past Saturday morning – 9/18/2021 – at about 3:15 a.m., Barnstable patrol units were dispatched to a single vehicle crash. The crash into a tree happened in the area of 3442 Falmouth Road/Route 28, on the Route 28 facing side of the old Marston Mills West Elementary School located at 2095 Main Street.
The initial patrol officers on scene encountered a male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. A police source described his injuries as a gunshot through the hand and into his body, possibly his hip area. (Also, at the time of this report, it’s unclear as to how many occupants were inside the vehicle…)
As you will hear in the following HN Video, at about 3:20 a.m., COMM FD dispatched ambulance 326 to the scene, along with other COMM FD units. While en route, EMTs were advised of the gunshot wound. Upon arrival, COMM firefighters reported a single vehicle off the road and into the woods – a car vs. tree. EMTs immediately radioed to dispatch to check on Medflight.
Dispatch radioed back that Medflight was not flying due to weather. The patient was then eventually transported via ambulance off-Cape to South Shore Hospital, according to FD sources.
A police source said the patient was transported to the off-Cape trauma center because of the complicated nature of the bullet traveling through his hand.
What had initially came in as a motor vehicle crash, turned out to be a crime scene involving a gunshot victim. Route 28 was shut down in both directions for a period of time as Barnstable Police detectives and patrol officers worked the scene.
As of the time of this report, the victim is reportedly expected to survive his wounds. The investigation is active and ongoing. It’s uncertain whether or not the victim is cooperating with police…
HN NOTES: It remains uncertain where the shooting actually took place. It also remains uncertain how many times the victim was shot. At this time, there is no information as to what may have led up to the shooting. Current information from police sources indicates the victim was shot once through the hand, however another confidential source states the victim may have been shot twice. Also, there was a summons with an arrest number attached to this case. According to the BPD call log, Steven M. Harris, age 29, of Teaticket (Falmouth), is being summons for Marked Lanes Violation, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License (Subsequent Offense). There are a lot of unanswered questions and HN will provide official updated details as they become available. (see following BPD log entry)
