SHOCK: Man arrested for arson shortly after Centerville house burns… [TWO VIDEOS]
CENTERVILLE – A man charged with arson was ordered to be held in custody without bail this afternoon.
According to a COMM FD press statement, firefighters responded to a house fire at 48 Priscilla Street at about 8:39AM today.
COMM FD and Hyannis Fire crews arrived to heavy fire at the rear of structure, with heavy smoke throughout the entire house…
HN was nearby and began rolling on video. HN Footage shows the scene just seconds after the major flames were knocked down.
(Remarkably, the HN footage also shows the arson suspect standing in front of the building as firefighters battle the fire.)
The structure sustained heavy fire damage to the rear of the house, including the porch. The rest of the house sustained fire, smoke, and water damage.
West Barnstable, Cotuit, and Barnstable FD’s responded to cover COMM’s stations during the fire.
No occupants were inside during the fire.
The fire was immediately investigated by COMM FD, with assistance from the Barnstable PD and the State Fire Marshalls Office.
Within three hours of the fire, HN learned Detective Sergeant/BPD Arson Investigator John York had arrested Jason Machado, age 28, for Arson.
There are two videos. The first video shows the fire scene and the heavy damage caused by what authorities are calling arson.
The second video shows Machado being arraigned this afternoon in Barnstable District Court. Machado had his mental health evaluated at the courthouse by a doctor and is currently being held without bail until his next court date.
