UPDATE – LATEST DETAILS – 10/5/23 @ 10:45PM:
According to reports filed in Barnstable District Court, on the evening of September 27, 2023, at around 11:50 p.m, Sandwich Police Officers were dispatched to an address on George Fernandes Way for a report of a breaking and entering in progress. According to the caller, at least three people were trying to get inside through her son’s bedroom window. (According to an unrelated official document, the adult son was born in 1997.)
One officer met with the reporting parties while a Sandwich police sergeant attempted to locate the suspects. The reporting parties, a mother and her son, met the officer outside of the residence and were reportedly “in a panicked fear.” The mother told the officers she was awakened by her son screaming for help, and that someone had just attempted to come in through his bedroom window.
The mom went outside and reportedly observed a Black Mercedes parked on Terripin Ridge Road. She said this was the same vehicle from an earlier “event on 9/25.” SPD Offense Report #23-1247-OF was filed for the previous incident.
The mom reportedly told officers she observed a person “wearing dark clothing and a ski mask” standing about 30 yards away in the parking lot.
The mom then reportedly told officers “… a green dot appeared on her body and saw the person pointing something at her.” She feared it was a gun, ran inside and immediately called 911.
Once the son calmed down, he reportedly told officers he had been asleep when someone suddenly kicked in his air conditioner while trying to enter. He also reportedly observed two green dots on his body while someone said, “you’re going to die tonight n[xxxx].”
The son reportedly threw a chair toward the person and quickly was able to secure the window shut. The person with the laser reportedly ran away at that point.
Moments later, a police sergeant reportedly observed the suspect vehicle travelling westbound on Quaker Meeting House Road. The fleeing suspect vehicle reportedly almost struck the police sergeant’s vehicle at one point. There was a brief pursuit that was eventually terminated according to the report.
The state police then also encountered the suspect vehicle and engaged in pursuit that was reportedly terminated…
Back at the scene, officers reportedly observed a window screen that had been cut open. A security camera at the residence was reportedly “pushed off to the side” while another camera was not working. A purple nitrile glove was found on the ground. A shoe mark in the dirt was documented. A member of the sheriff’s crime scene unit dusted for prints but found none.
Two discarded firearms, a Glock and Smith Wesson, were reportedly located nearby in the area of Quaker Meeting House Road and Osprey Lane. One was found on the road’s shoulder, the other reportedly “over a guardrail on a declined sidewalk…” One of the firearms reportedly appeared to be equipped with a laser pointer attachment.
The son reportedly denied knowing these people or why they were after him. An officer reminded him that the same vehicle was seen at the previous incident on 9/25, when he was attacked. The son “was adamant he did not know these people and has nothing to hide regarding why they were after him.”
